Global Peace Movement Action in Holland

The Jakarta Peace Conference is a continuous effort to build on the global peace
movement that came out of the protests against the war on Iraq on 14 February.
The gathering is living proof that the momentum of the peace movement wasn't
lost, and that "the other superpower" - world public opinion - can have a
significant say in today's increasingly uni-polar world. Such power was shown
also in the cancellation of a visit to Holland of the Chilean torture ship,
Esmeralda, thanks to the co-ordinated protest action of citizens' organisations,
including TNI [Transnational Institute].
